About Australia
Australia is close to the size of Europe with a small fraction of the population, and almost everybody lives on the coast. The interior — the outback — is arid, red and very sparsely settled, with Uluru rising out of the plain near the geographic centre of it.
The east coast holds the cities and the reef. Sydney is built around a deep natural harbour that the city never quite turns away from, and the Great Barrier Reef runs for more than two thousand kilometres off the Queensland coast.

- The Great Barrier Reef extends over 2,300 kilometres and is the largest coral reef system in the world.
- Uluru rises about 348 metres from the surrounding plain and is sacred to the Anangu people.
