About Nepal
Nepal rises from near sea level in the south to the highest ground on the planet in the north, and does it across a country only a couple of hundred kilometres deep. Eight of the world's fourteen peaks above eight thousand metres stand within its borders.
Most journeys begin in the Kathmandu valley, where three old royal cities — Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur — sit within a short drive of each other, then move west to Pokhara, which lies far lower and has the Annapurna wall standing directly above its lake.

Worth Knowing Before You Go
- Eight of the world's fourteen peaks above 8,000 metres are in Nepal, including Everest at 8,849 metres.
- The Kathmandu valley holds seven UNESCO-listed monument zones, including the three old royal squares.
- Pokhara sits at around 820 metres, much lower than Kathmandu, with the Annapurna range directly north.
- The settled trekking seasons are autumn and spring; the monsoon and deep winter are less reliable.
