About Turkey
Istanbul is built across the Bosphorus, with Europe on one bank and Asia on the other, and the city has been the capital of two empires. Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and Topkapi stand within a short walk of each other, which compresses about fifteen hundred years of building into a single view.
Beyond the city the country opens out. Cappadocia's soft volcanic rock has been carved into dwellings and churches over centuries. The Aegean coast holds Ephesus, and inland at Pamukkale white mineral terraces step down a hillside.
