About Delhi (Golden Triangle)
Delhi is really several cities built over one another, and the Mughal and colonial layers are the two still most visible. Old Delhi, around the Jama Masjid and Chandni Chowk, is dense and low and best walked. New Delhi, laid out in the nineteen-tens and twenties, is wide, planted and built for motorcars.
It is also the usual starting point for the Golden Triangle. Delhi, Agra and Jaipur each sit a couple of hundred kilometres from the next, and the three corners are now linked by expressway.

Worth Knowing Before You Go
- Humayun's Tomb, the Qutb Minar complex and the Red Fort are each UNESCO-listed.
- The Golden Triangle refers to Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, each roughly 200 to 250 kilometres from the next.
- Old Delhi and New Delhi were laid out centuries apart and remain very different in character.
- The Yamuna Expressway has cut the Delhi to Agra road journey to around three hours.
