About Manali
Manali sits at about two thousand metres at the head of the Kullu valley, where the Beas runs down through deodar forest. The town works as a base rather than a destination in itself, because the valley above it climbs quickly toward the snowline and that is where people are going.
Solang, a short drive north, is the snow and adventure ground. Beyond it the Rohtang pass crosses at nearly four thousand metres into Lahaul. Old Manali, above the main town, keeps its orchards and slate-roofed houses.

Worth Knowing Before You Go
- Manali sits at around 2,000 metres at the head of the Kullu valley on the Beas river.
- The Rohtang pass crosses at about 3,980 metres and is usually open only from around May to November.
- The Atal Tunnel, opened in 2020, gives year-round access toward Lahaul beneath the pass.
- Solang valley, a short drive north of the town, is the main ground for snow activity in winter.
